UNRWA Sulafa Embroidery Project, Gaza City |
The United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) runs a non-profit self-supporting embroidery Program, which employs over 500 refugee women located in ten Women Program Centers located in eight refugee camps in the Gaza Strip to produce Palestinian traditional articles for sale at the Embroidery Shop (Sulafa). Women are paid for what they produce and are thus able to meet some of the financial needs for their families. Their goal is to maintain Palestinian traditional embroidery for generations to come, and to encourage self-support among refugee women.
